About the role

As an Examiner you’ll be expected to carry out timely marking, by applying accurate and consistent marks on candidate evidence, in line with the agreed application of the marking grid and tolerances set at standardisation and feedback from Senior Examiner sampling.  

The Role Profile defines the responsibilities and expectations of the Examiner role. 

The question paper and Employer-set Project assess the knowledge and skills learned as part of the core element of the T Level. They are set and marked by City & Guilds and delivered across Summer and Autumn series each year.

The question paper covers topics such as:

  • Health and Safety
    • Sustainability
    • Biosecurity
    • Supply Chain
    • Anatomy and physiology
    • Biological cells and tissues
    • Nutrition
    • Animal behaviour

 The Employer-set Project consists of several tasks linked to an employer-set brief that changes each series:

  • Research  
  • Report  
  • Project plan  
  • Presentation  
  • Evaluation

Key timelines

Examiners must be available for the below schedule to be considered for the Summer 2026 marking series:

  • Training dates:              ESP; 27/03/2026 or 30/04/2026  Core paper 2: 14/05/2026 or 05/06/2026
  •  Standardisation date:   ESP: 20/05/202                          Core paper 2: 19/06/2026
  •  Marking window:          ESP: 21/05/2026 - 01/07/2026     Core paper 2: 20/06/2026 – 10/07/2026

All Marking Examiners must attend marker training, as well as a standardisation meeting (typically 1-day remote). Quick turnaround periods apply during marking.  A Marker report will be required to summarise trends observed during the marking activity.
