The Chief Examiner position is a Senior Examiner positions linked to assessments that require marking and often have marking teams.

The specific requirements for each of the roles vary depending on the qualification and associated examiner structure.

Typical responsibilities of these positions include:

  • Monitoring and maintaining standards of assessments over time
  • Writing assessment materials and associate mark schemes or marking guidance
  • Chairing or participating in Assessment Material Evaluation Committee (AMEC) meetings
  • Leading marker standardisation meetings, sampling and monitoring the work of Marking Examiners
  • Participating in standard setting activities such as Awarding Writing examiner reports
