The Chief Examiner will: 

 • produce examination papers and associated mark schemes that comply with the test specification and within the agreed timescales

• participate in Assessment Materials Editing Committee (AMEC) meetings to agree amendments to the papers and mark schemes

• prepare for and lead standardisation of Marking Examiners’ meetings to agree amendments to the mark schemes

• attend cross-awarding body standardisation meetings with the regulator in Northern Ireland as required

• act as a Marking Examiner as required

• deliver Marking Examiner and Team Lead training as required

• monitor, standardise and sample the work of marking examiners and Team Leads

• prepare for and participate in standards setting meetings

• produce biannual Chief Examiner reports on the performance of the examination

• review and feed back on Reviser and Scrutineer reports

• advise on queries and enquiries concerning the examination papers as requested by City & Guilds

• review candidates’ scripts where the candidate has appealed their result

• participate in meetings related to the subject at the request of City & Guilds

• attend training and regular meetings to ensure best practice

• undertake training as requested by City & Guilds

• provide advice and guidance to City & Guilds’ staff regarding all aspects of the examination

• participate in the 4800 associate recruitment process as required. 

 

Successful applicants will: 

  • have teaching or assessment experience in the relevant subject and levels 
  • have a high level of recent, relevant subject knowledge 
  • be computer literate 
  • have access to a secure PC with a firewall, up-to-date anti-virus software, private broadband access and a personal, private email account 
  • have good written and verbal communication skills 
  • be able to follow procedures accurately and reliably 
  • be able to work to fixed timescales 
  • be passionate about vocational education and helping people reach their full potential 
  • have previously marked or led a team of markers for a UK awarding body
