The Occupational Specialisms are set and marked by City & Guilds and delivered during the Summer series each year. 

The assessment includes a practical assignment, project brief, relevant resources and several tasks for learners to complete. 

The purpose of each of the Occupational Specialisms is for learners to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills for each of the following areas:

Business Improvement:

  • Acquire and protect data to support the improvement process.
  • Analyse data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Engage stakeholders in discussions on business processes and improvement.
  • Identify, propose, and plan solutions for improvement.
  • Monitor and report the implementation of business improvement activities.

Team Leadership and Management:

  • Lead, manage and develop individuals and teams to deliver outcomes.
  • Build relationships with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Deliver core operational tasks and plans.
  • Manage and implement projects.
  • Apply governance and compliance requirements.

Business Support:

  • Support the running of the organisation.
  • Organise and prioritise workloads and processes.
  • Recommend and deliver improvements to business practices.
  • Build and maintain positive internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Manage the business information flow.

The key timelines for each of key activities is involved in are outlined below:

Standardisation & Marking Window: May – July

All Marking Examiners will be required to attend marker training, as well as a standardisation meeting with the rest of the examination team. This is typically a 1-day meeting.

Please be aware that due to these being a dated assessments, there are periods of the marking process when a quick turnaround is required.

As part of the marking process, Markers will be required to submit a Marker report detailing findings on trends observed during the marking activity.

About your application

Applications will be reviewed on an on-going basis and we will be aiming to make final decisions in March-April 2025.

Successful applicants for the Marking Examiner positions may be asked to carry out a short task, attend a telephone interview and/or attend training as part of the second stage of recruitment, before being confirmed for the role.
